Got PrEP questions?

  • PrEP is a highly effective HIV prevention medication for people who are HIV-negative, reducing the risk of HIV from sex by more than 99% when taken as prescribed. PrEP is available either as a daily pill or a long-acting injectable. CAN’s Online PrEP services provide opportunities for all individuals to receive flexibility in their PrEP services by receiving access to the once daily pill form of PrEP. Learn more about PrEP opportunities at canprep.org for specific PrEP related information.
  • DoxyPEP (doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis) is an antibiotic taken after potential exposure to help reduce the risk of certain bacterial sexually transmitted infections, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

It is not a replacement for PrEP and does not prevent HIV. If appropriate, CAN providers may prescribe DoxyPEP as part of a comprehensive prevention plan. Individuals receiving PrEP through CAN may also access DoxyPEP when clinically appropriate.

  • Everybody! Any individual above the age of 18 years old is eligible for Online PrEP services at CAN Community Health.
  • No. Insurance is not required to participate in CAN Community Health’s Online PrEP program. Online PrEP provider visits and required laboratory testing are provided at no charge as part of our prevention-focused care model. If medication is prescribed, prescriptions are processed through your insurance when available. If you do not have prescription insurance coverage, our team will work with you to obtain medications through manufacturer assistance programs and other medication support options.
  • CAN Community Health provides Online PrEP provider visits at no charge. These visits are brief, focused consultations designed specifically for HIV prevention and sexual health review. If medication is prescribed, prescriptions are processed through your insurance when available. Many insurance plans cover PrEP at low or no cost. If you do not have prescription coverage, our team will help you explore manufacturer assistance programs and other medication support options.
  • Getting started is easy: Schedule a visit through the PrEP Chatbot, complete at‑home lab testing, and meet with a CAN provider to review your results and start PrEP, all from home.

  • CAN offers multiple convenient options for completing required lab testing to start PrEP services with us, so you can choose what works best for you. CAN partners with MyLAB Box to offer discreet, at‑home lab testing kits delivered directly to your door. You collect your samples privately at home and mail them back using a prepaid envelope. Results are reviewed by a physician and typically available within 1–5 business days.

Prefer in‑person testing services? You may also complete testing at your nearest LabCorp draw center. Find a convenient location near you and visit at a time that fits your schedule here. No matter which option you choose, CAN makes it easy, private, and accessible to get the testing you need to start PrEP.

  • If you receive positive results after undergoing screening services, our CAN providers can help, please reach out to us at (844) 922-2777.
  • Our goal is to make your care simple and stress‑free. You’ll choose the type of care that fits you best- either our full Health Center services or our Online PrEP program. Because each option works differently, we try to keep you in the program you select so your care stays consistent and uninterrupted.
If you only need temporary virtual visits, your clinic can usually provide those through televisits without switching programs. It’s best to choose the option that supports your ongoing needs.
  • CAN’s Online PrEP service program covers the following states: Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, South Carolina, and Virginia. If you are outside of the following states, please find PrEP services closest to you at preplocator.org.
  • Please reach out to our PrEP Care Team for any questions regarding application questions, specimen collection, and more at onlineprep@cancommunityhealth.org.
  • Use the PrEP chatbot to schedule your appointment by following the prompts. You’ll receive a text message to complete your pre‑appointment forms, followed by a secure link to connect with your CAN provider at the time of your visit.

  • At this time, Online PrEP offers oral PrEP medication only. If you’re interested in injectable PrEP, our team can help connect you with a CAN clinic that offers this option. Click Contact Us below to learn more about next steps.
