Frequently Asked Questions

  • PrEP is a highly effective HIV prevention medication for people who are HIV-negative, reducing the risk of HIV from sex by more than 99% when taken as prescribed. PrEP is available either as a daily pill or a long-acting injectable. CAN’s Online PrEP services provide opportunities for all individuals to receive flexibility in their PrEP services by receiving access to the once daily pill form of PrEP. Learn more about PrEP opportunities at canprep.org for specific PrEP related information.
  • DoxyPEP (doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis) is an antibiotic taken after potential exposure to help reduce the risk of certain bacterial sexually transmitted infections, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

It is not a replacement for PrEP and does not prevent HIV. If appropriate, CAN providers may prescribe DoxyPEP as part of a comprehensive prevention plan. Individuals receiving PrEP through CAN may also access DoxyPEP when clinically appropriate.

Specifically for Online PrEP services, you will receive the at-home testing kit after completion and review of your Online PrEP application. The user will collect the samples in the comfort of their own home, and privately mail them back via prepaid envelope, and receive physician-reviewed results within 1-5 business days.

Shipping is discreet, data is protected under HIPAA, and tests are designed for convenience and privacy. In addition, all samples are processed through CLIA-and CAP-certified laboratories, ensuring professional, clinical-grade accuracy.
